Updates 3/5/12

Hey Everyone!

So this week and last week, I was barely able to do any animation. I had the 16th Annual Ed Wood Film Festival to plan, prepare, set up, host and clean up on Friday so I spent the rest of the day Wednesday and Thursday and Friday preparing for this event. I was able to work a little bit on Saturday but not for long before going to work. My Sundays are filled with church and meetings and then I have work to top it off until 1am. Today, I was stuck at the dorm taking care of RA stuff until 1pm and then found out that rentals for the Ed Wood Film Festival were due back today so I spent the rest of the day traveling all over the LA Area taking rentals back because I am the only one on our staff without classes on Mondays (and today was supposed to be my Thesis Day). Now, I have an essay to write. Hopefully I will be able to touch my Thesis tonight.

So…I wont have as much Animation to show this Wednesday as I would have hoped but I will have some. I am REALLY looking forward to Spring Break where I can literally work on nothing but Thesis from dawn until dusk. It will be great. Its hard enough trying to sit down and focus scatterbrained.

Good news! My sound designer retouched my entirety of my grandfather’s narration. Now there are no pops or cut offs and all of the voices are at the same volume level! How she fished through an hour and a half of sound and made it identical to my rough edit is beyond me but she did it! Yay! It will be in my New Animatic that I will show for class.

That’s it for now!

Hey Everyone,

So my sound designer edited a full new version of the narration. I am excited to hear it. It wont be in the Animatic below, but it will be in the next Animatic.

Sound in general is proving to be a lot of work. There was a point in time where I had absolutely on idea what I was doing so I decided to ask Bethany to help me make a full and complete schedule for both my Sound Designer, my Composer and anything that I would need to give them as pertains to sound. Oh my goodness, this all makes so much more sense. Now I have a concrete Timeline to go from! So I sent it to the both of them and we have all been working to keep on schedule.

According to the schedule, I need to post a new Animatic every week and a half to two weeks on my blog for my sound designer and composer to work from. I was supposed to post a new one tonight but when I rendered my current Animatic, I only rendered the parts with animation instead of the entire Animatic. The link to my newest animation is at the top of this update.

I will be posting a Full Animatic tomorrow for my sound designer and composer. (Sorry guys!)

Otherwise, I am starting to fully realize how fast time is running out and am slowly beginning to freak out a little. HOWEVER! I don’t want the quality of my animation to decrease so I am hurrying but with care. I have decided to color all of my scenes myself. Its more fun that way and I don’t have to spend extra time coordinating things with even more people. I have plenty of coordinating in my RA schedule and the plethora of events I have to put on and with my sound designer and composer. If I have to coordinate with another person and keep up with anymore stuff, I think I might go crazy. No, no. I will color myself.

My scenes are coming together very well. I have no questions at the moment.

Anyways, that’s it for this week.

Updates 1/23/12

Hey there!

This week I will be finishing up my scene clean-ups and finalizing the payment logistics with my coloring assistants and sound designer. Look out for a couple of new scenes of Animation in a week’s time.

Updates (1/15-1/22)

Hello everyone!

So this week I hired a sound designer and three assistants to help color my scenes while I finish animating them. I took another look at my animation schedule and found that I am still behind. In order to have a picture lock by my personal deadline – February 28th, I will need help coloring so that I can focus on animating. I also had a great meeting with my Composer about the fill-in score that he wrote for the He threw in A LOT of great ideas. I am really excited to hear the first pass!

I don’t have any new animation done this week however I am in the process of cleaning up previously animated scenes so that I can hand them over to my assistants.

This next week, I plan on finishing up the clean-up for all of the scenes I have already animated, hand all of them over to my assistants. I also plan to have a meeting with my sound designer and have her look at my animatic and mark places where she thinks sound would be beneficial. My hope is that she will be able to accompany our class to the foley session on February 1st but if not, we can schedule a separate time.

That’s it for this week. Stay tuned for more animation within a week or so!

Animatic

I am still currently working on my Animatic 🙂

Update (11/28/11)

So this week, along with animating, I will be revising some of my scenes and backgrounds so that they are more readable. After taking a good look at my Animatic I’ve found that the timing in a few of my scenes, don’t work well with the narration. They overall seem a little choppy so I will also make the transitions a little longer and concrete. I want the animation in my film to flow just as easy as my grandfather narrates the story. I don’t think its quite there yet.

Also, I’ve decided to darken the background a little bit more. It’s a little to light.

I’ve been working on loosening my animation a little more. My images tend to be more static than loose so I’m working on taking more risk by pushing my poses more rather than leaving the body stationary and only animating one part.

I think these minor changes will really help my film flow. I just can’t help getting this “static” feeling when I watch the Animatic. For example, I think my bird flying in the sky at the beginning of the film is more loose than the rest of the scenes.

I’m probably doing a poor job of explaining this but maybe I can explain it better once I change it. That’s it for now 🙂
